How Does It Work? Lasers are used to permanently reduce hair growth from almost any area of the body - such as a woman's upper lip, bikini line or legs and a man's ears, beard or back. The laser targets the pigment (color) of the hair follicle. The laser energy is then transformed into heat and destroys the hair follicle. We use our very own LightSheer Diode Laser by Lumenis; FDA approved and rated the highest for efficacy. The LightSheer can be used on all skin types.
How Many Treatments? Hair is formed inside a hair bulb deep in a hair follicle. Each hair passes through three different stages: Anagen (the growing phase), catagen (the transition phase), and telogen (the resting phase). In the anagen phase the hair is active and has pigment. Its pigment can absorb the laser and the follicle can be destroyed. When the hair is in its resting phase or catagen/telogen phase it is not capable of absorbing the laser light and destruction of the follicle will not occur. Not all hairs are in anagen at any given time. Multiple treatments are necessary to catch all of the hairs when they are in anagen. Everyone needs at least 2-3 treatments. The total number of treatments needed varies depending on your hair color and skin color.
What areas can be treated? Any area can be treated except for inside the bony area around the eye.
What does it feel like? Patients have described the way it feels in many different ways. Some say it feels like the snap of a small rubber band or like a tiny pinch. Everyone's perception varies. A topical anesthetic is available that helps to increase your comfort level during the procedure.
What will it cost? The cost varies depending on the area of the body and the number of treatments needed. We offer specially priced packages and a 10% off with every additional treatment of the same area.
